Box Table OverviewThe Box Type Table is the table used to identify box types that are used in your facility for the shipment of your deliveries. This section provides a detailed description of each of the fields in the box type table and a brief explanation of its use. It is critical that it be understood that all the boxes that are contained in the Box Type Table need to be included as material numbers on SAP.
This is because we upload the box value in which a Delivery/shipping carton is picked/packed to SAP. Therefore the box must be a valid SAP box I.D.
Every one of these boxes and totes which are included in this box table are available for selection during the read-in and subsequent dimensioning process that occurs on each Delivery and its line items after it is read into WaveTrak WCS from SAP (subject to optimization rules of course). Therefore, it is imperative that these boxes are configured carefully and correctly to optimize the cube utilization of the shipping container.

The following section provides you with the definition and an explanation for each of the fields for each of the Box Type Table (see image above)
Box I.D. – This is the Box Identification number given to the box. Remember that this is also the SAP material number that has been created on SAP for this Box Type. There is no validation from WaveTrak WCS against the SAP Material Master table, therefore, data entry errors can occur. It is imperative that all data is entered correctly---making sure that it matches SAP.
Box Description - The Box Description is the description given to the box I.D. being created.
Box Type – There are two Box Types available. “B” for a shipping box or corrugated shipping container and “T” for tote.
L/W/H – The field is self-explanatory. You need to provide us with the length, width, height of each box type recognizing that the dimensioning program will use these dimensions to determine the Optimum Box for each Shipping carton during the read-in process.
Therefore, again, it is imperative that you be careful when entering the box dimensions. The dimensions must be in either Imperial or Metric measurements depending on the requirement.
Weight – This value is the exact weight for the box you are creating. The box weight is included along with the line item’s weight to provide a summary weight that is used to determine the Shipping carton total weight.;
This total weight is the weight used to determine a Pass/Fail at the weigh scale prior to packing (if conveyor interface and control are required). A “Fail” i.e. the weight value exceeds or is less than the predetermined total weight causes WaveTrak WCS to route the HU/shipping container to an Exception Lane(s) for inspection.
Allowed Delivery - You can determine if the box type you are creating can be used for:
D - Domestic shipments
I - International Shipments
B F- Both Domestic and International Shipments
The implications of this allowed Delivery flag are that a Delivery identified as a Domestic Delivery could only be dimensioned into those boxes stamped with a “D” (Domestic Delivery box type). Those deliveries identified as an International Delivery could only be dimensioned into those box types stamped with an “I.” Box types flagged with a “B” (both Domestic and International) would be available for either domestic or International deliveries and could be used by the dimensioning program.
Long/Short Indicator – You need to provide us with a long or short indicator on the Box Type Table. The reason is that we receive a “Long/Short” indicator on the material line items presented to WaveTrak from SAP. You will remember that we will not mix long and short product in a Shipping carton and will instead create two separate Shipping cartons (or more as required) for all the “Long” material and then all the “Short” material included in a Delivery.
The Long/Short Indicator on the Box Type Table allows us to quickly identify those boxes that can be used for dimensioning long or short product. This increases our efficiencies and expedites the dimensioning process. Again, it is important that you recognize that you should be careful regarding this selection.
Status - This Status Indicator is the field used to indicate the following:
A = Active indicates that the box is available and can be used during the dimensioning process.
D = Disabled indicates that the box has been flagged as being unavailable for the dimensioning process.
